Friday, June 7, 2013 (St. Regis, MT)

Well, I'm sure you notice that we are in St. Regis instead of Thompson Falls like we had kind of planned.  That's the beauty of this lifestyle, you can change your backyard whenever you want.  The campground at Thompson Falls was very nice, but the TRAINS....oh my let me tell you about the trains and did I mention train whistles????  I like trains, but I don't like train whistles, especially at all hours of the night.  The park reviews had mentioned the train noise, and with spending the winter at Crown Villa in Bend, we could hear the occasional train and had gotten used to the rumble of trains, so I thought.  Needless to say, we both decided this morning that we'd rather be in a different campground tonight, so we got packed up and headed down the road to our next destination.

This is such a beautiful part of the country and we had been on Highway 200 and today we would be on Highway 135.  Both of these highways go between two mountains and follow the Clark Fork River, did I mention how beautiful it is? We had a lovely drive to our next destination.

We arrived at the Campground St. Regis around 12:30.  They are wonderful here, very friendly and helpful.  The only downside is you can hear some freeway noise, but after the train whistles, not a problem.  One unusual feature is that wherever a tree has been cut down, they have used a chainsaw and carved wildlife, ie bears, fish, birds and they are actually quite good.  Notice in the right lower corner, the little bear.

After we got setup, we did our usual scouting trip of the local town.  There wasn't too much to see, it's a very small town, but there was this antique store that we stopped at because I could see this display from the road and had to check it out.  The garden stuff wasn't antique, but there was lots of it.  The store had some pretty nice items and it was very nicely displayed, one of the nicer antique stores I've been in.  We also checked out the other RV park in town and it was quite nice, but was a bit more expensive and didn't quite have the same feel as this one.
We had a nice quiet evening watching a movie from the campground store, RV with Robin Williams, it was funny, but not as funny as I expected it to be.

  1. I think you drove right by the road to our friend's cabin on the Clark Fork. We hope to spend time there again this summer. You must have also passed by Quinn Hot Springs. Lovely place you can go to any time, especially if you're still in St. Regis.
    Enjoy!

  2. I did forget to mention that the trains are quite loud at the cabin! The rail line goes within a 100 yards of there, and the first few times you hear it, it's like it is going through your living room!!! But eventually, you get used to it.
