Monday, June 3, 2013 (Hope, ID)

Today we were leaving Spokane and headed to Hope, ID. Getting packed up to go was a bit of a challenge in our tight spot at Alderwood RV park. I don’t think we will stay there again, things were just a bit too tight. We were on the road about 10:45 a.m. and we had under a 100 miles to travel, perfect in my book.

The trip to Hope was our best one yet. The roads were in good shape and there was only one turn in downtown Sandpoint, ID that might be a challenge, but turned out it was a piece of cake. The scenery was beautiful and once we got to Sandpoint we were traveling along Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced Ponderay). Lake Pend Oreille is 43 miles long and 1,158 ft deep. We arrived at our destination around 12:30.

We are staying at the Island View Resort. It is so beautiful and quiet here, we immediately liked the place. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There are tons of deer around because the area is actually a wildlife refuge. There are signs everywhere saying don’t feed the deer. Before we could pull into our site, one of the owners had to grab a bucket and pick up some deer poop. There are some RV’s that look like they stay year round and we appear to be the only ones that are just passing through. The busy season is only about 8 weeks long from July – August. Our site is not on the lake, they only have a few of those, but we can see the water through the rv’s and homes that line the lake. There are some pretty nice homes around and I’m sure they cost a pretty penny.

We got setup and just kicked back outside. The area was scheduled for some thunderstorms, but they stayed off in the distance, though the sky got dark a couple of times.
We also took a walk around the resort, they have approximately 20+ acres here and a place to dock boats and a swimming dock. The lake is still filling and is not at it’s high water mark yet so some of the docks look a little funny yet.
The resort office has movies and books that you can borrow while you are here, so after dinner we watched a movie. It was a nice relaxing day from start to finish.
