Wednesday, June 5, 2013 (Hope, ID)

We woke to blue skies and sunshine, another nice day is in the forecast. We did another day of our walk/jog routine since we missed a day earlier in the week. After our breakfast, when I went over to pay for another night I spent some time talking with Misha about the area. She has been in the area for quite some time and has seen a lot of change. Just like Bend, they had the real estate boom and then crash and things are slowly coming back. It’s a very pretty area but I think it might be a little too rainy for my liking in the spring, the summers are suppose to be really pretty though.

Plain side of Berlin Wall

Graffitti side - which side do you think was on the East side?

Just up the road is a piece of the Berlin wall, so we rode our bikes up to check it out. Yep, it’s really there. Klaus Groenke is from Germany and has a second home in the area, (if you click on the link, it’s actually a pretty interesting article). It was a nice short ride, but boy it was a tough one, we had to climb a pretty steep hill, but I’m learning to use my bike gears a bit better, so I made it up without stopping, just barely.

We had a bite to eat back at the fiver and then headed out on another longer bike ride into the little town of Hope. It is about six miles one way from our RV park and we were able to ride on the old highway instead of the main highway so it was a very scenic ride with only a couple of cars and a quad that passed us. There is not much to Hope/East Hope, not even a grocery store but there are some pretty houses with some pretty views of the lake.

There were a couple of creeks along the highway that emptied into the big lake, so part of our ride we were accompanied by the sound of rushing water. Misha had mentioned that there was a new café in town that I thought we might stop and get something to drink, but unfortunately for us, it was closed on Tues & Wed. Oh well, good thing we remembered to bring water with us. It was starting to get warm, so we headed back to the fiver. Round trip it was a 12 mile bike ride, and a nice relaxing one, with hardly any steep hills, just my kind of ride.

Ron - this picture is for you

The rest of the afternoon was spent out in the lounge chair doing some reading, oh and a little bit of laundry. We had a nice BBQ dinner and watched another movie from the RV park’s movie library. We’ll be moving on tomorrow but this is definitely a place we would come back and stay awhile.

Another pretty sunset
