Thursday, May 30, 2013 (Spokane, WA)

We woke up to partly sunny skies, so it should be a good travel day, hopefully without any showers along the way, which actually were in the forecast.

Before we left, we drove over to a big parking lot that was in the park and I took a couple turns around the parking lot driving the fiver.  The driving part wasn't so bad, so then I tried backing up - that wasn't so good, that was hard.  Not sure I'll be trying that in a campground anytime soon.  We also grabbed the camera and got a picture of the big bird of prey and its nest with babies.  Not sure what kind of bird of prey it was, any ideas?

Today is a big day for the truck/fiver, we are going to be making the climb up Lewiston Hill which is a steady uphill climb with a 7% grade for about 6 miles. We’ll see how the truck handles pulling our fiver which is one of the heavier fifth wheels.

Well let’s just say we made it up. We have some more experimenting to do with our Banks power system and what level to run it at. We started at level 4 and ended up at level one by the time we were at the top. I don’t begin to understand it all, that’s Rich’s department.

We hit a little bit of wind along part of our trip to Spokane. The countryside was beautiful though, very pastoral looking. I liked the pine trees as we got closer to Spokane. We unfortunately got rained on about 15 minutes from arriving at our RV park, which got the fiver all dirty again, bummer. I guess we can’t expect to travel on the road and keep it spotless.

We got to our RV park around 1:00, it was about a 3 hour drive for us which wasn’t too bad considering we took it very slow climbing up Lewiston Hill. We were a little concerned about what we’d find when we arrived at the RV park. After we had made the reservations I happened upon a rvparkreviews.com web site and checked out our park – uh oh, everyone was commenting on how narrow the sites were and if you had slide outs, how you were brushing up against the landscaping and trees in your site. We checked in and got our assigned site and drove the fiver over to see if we could fit. Yikes, the sites are very tight and even following the check in guys instructions about where to put the tires on the bricks, we couldn’t fit and open our slides. Back to the office to see if they would give us another site. We had scoped out a few on our walk back to the office and fortunately for us, one of them was available. So we switched sites and were able to fit. Shhhh don’t tell, but we did pull out the clippers and clip a few branches here and there so they wouldn’t rub against our slides and make scratches. Their advertising says it is one of the top 10 resorts in the US according to RV Business magazine. Hmmm I wonder how many years ago that was, probably just after the park was built. I’m sure in it’s day before they built these bigger coaches with all the slides, that it was a very highly rated park, but for any big rigs, it is uncomfortably tight. Good Sam rates them pretty high too which was surprising. Once we were in, we have a nice little spot, but if we wouldn’t have been able to move, we would have been very unhappy.

After we got setup we didn’t do too much the rest of the evening, we just kicked back with the TV and a phone call to my mom. Tomorrow we have some shopping adventures planned.
