Tuesday, May 28, 2013, (Clarkston, WA)

We had another good travel day to our next destination – Chief Timothy Park. It is a COE (Corp of Engineers) park that is run by a concierge. It is a very pretty park that was built in the 1970’s, so the sites are a bit narrow, but definitely doable and the park is on an island on the Snake River.

We arrived to find very friendly park staff, maybe a bit too friendly and helpful. We made the mistake of sharing that we’d only been on the road for a couple months. So when we were trying to maneuver into site #1, which didn’t have a weekend reservation in case we wanted to stay longer, we were trying to get all our jacks on the pavement, the camp host came over and tried to give advice. Well we had just tried what was suggested and it hadn’t worked….what is the polite way to turn down unwanted advice? We’ll have to figure that one out yet. We finally decided that we’d just move into site #2, which was longer and straighter but had a weekend reservation. If we want to stay longer, there were some other non-water sites available we could move to if we want.

While we were setting up, we again got a visit from the camp host, this one was requested because when Rich went to hook up the electrical connection, there was a wasp nest. Luckily the wasps didn’t sting him, but we had another long visit from the camp host. Like I said, they are very friendly and knowledgeable about workcamping, but there is the etiquette of not visiting with folks while they are setting up or taking down their sites because it can be very distracting. We’ll have to remember that etiquette in the future when we are tempted to visit with someone who has just arrived. Anyway, we finally got all set up. Whew, that one took a bit.

We had a bite to eat and jumped in the truck for our site seeing tour around the area. We drove into Clarkston, which is just 8 miles down the road and found a Super Walmart and a Costco, some of our favorite stores. So of course, we had to stop and stock up on some items that were on our list. Fun things, like a shorter sewer hose and some hose connections so Rich can make a shorter water hose. Sometimes when your connections are really close to the rig, it is nicer to have the shorter options.

We got back to the rig and got our purchases put away it was time to make dinner. It was a lovely evening out, so we did a BBQ and ate outside at the picnic table looking at the river. It is very pretty; there is some road noise, probably louder than normal because the highway is right up next to the steep hillside.

After dinner and dishes and a phone call to my mom, we watched a movie we had picked up at Wal-Mart. Déjà vu, it was pretty interesting in a time travel sort of way.
